Hair loss at a young age?

For maybe a year now, I've had pretty bad hair loss. I'm nearly 16 and have been vegetarian for maybe a year and a half. I doubt I'm lacking protein however, because I eat a lot of beans. The blood tests I've had have come back with everything being normal, although they weren't specifically checking for anything that would cause hair loss and I'm not really stressed about anything at all.

I notice it the most in the shower and when I brush my hair. Is it possible, if I started to take vitamins that this may help with my problem over a period of time? What else could be wrong?

At your age it could be hormonal, but you say you are also vegetarian which could lead to some nutrient deficiencies that may be causing your hair loss. The blood tests you had would not necessarily tell you what nutrients you are deficient in, but they have probably ruled that out any disease issue that could be causing the hair loss.

Here are two things to consider, firstly check out http://www.hairloss-treatments.net as there is a lot of useful information there.

Secondly take a look at Provillus. This is a great nutritional supplement that contains within it all the essential nutrients that are needed to help with their loss.I think this would be especially useful for someone on a vegetarian diet.

From memory there is a place to order this supplement at hairloss-treatments.net

Good luck

Hair loss at a young age?

i have the same problem and am also nearly 16. i am not a vegtarian and have a healthy diet so i doubt thats the reason. vitamins may help but brushing your hair before you go to bed helps stimulate growth and also masaging your head whilst in the shower. these are the only solutions i have heard.

good luck %26lt;3

It may be a hormonal imbalance. That can sometimes cause hairloss. Try switching doctors. Hair loss isn't normal. Especially if it's been last for a year or more.

Hair loss is often associated with those who go vegetarian. Just because you eat beans, doesn't mean you have balanced protein. My sister's hair first turned white and then she lost a considerable amount. I would say she lost a good 1/3 of her hair. Part of the problem may be related to an immune system not functioning properly at this point, but I don't know. My cousin, who also experienced a lot of health problems as a vegetarian went back to eating first fish, and eventually something of everthing. His hair color never returned (lots of white due to imbalanced protein), but his health got better.

My Mom's friend, a vegetarian Hindu of several generations of vegetarians says that many Americans who go veggie do not actually learn how to do it properly. He also pointed out that it is likely that children who could not adjust to vegetarian lifestyle likely died prior to reproducing, thus only those who do well with it survive. (that's his theory).

You need more than just protein to have a balanced diet. My vegetarian friend in India came here and started losing her hair, because she was not able to follow her usual diet in America, so she was becoming malnourished. She went to her doctor who taught her how to eat vegetarian in America, and she also had to take vitamins. Take another look at your diet, and go see a nutritionist!
