Grooming question for matted dog hair?

I have a 1 year old cocker and no matter how often I brush her hair, she will get it matted up in no time again, especially her armpits. What is the easiest way to brush out mats without hurting her? I always feel terrible brushing and pulling even though I try to be gentle.

You can also have your groomer keep the hair in problem areas just a bit shorter. Or you can do it yourself, if you groom your own pooch. If she's not fighting arctic temps, slightly shorter armpit fur won't hurt her....the french might not agree... but that's a different story...

Get some of the detangling spritz at the store, I find the childrens brand works best

Use a conditioner after shampooing. Works for dogs, too.

I opinon would be to shave her and then as it grows back brush her and reward her then when ever you go to brush her she won't give you any problems. Some dogs look good shaved if her hair is still easily tangled keep she shaved.

i have a border collie mix and i have the same trouble, i use something called, Deodorizing Spritz with Skin and coat conditioners, it's a product from earthbath, a dog grooming product. i highly recommend it, it makes your dog smell good too. you can probably find it at your local pet store :)
