no they dont kno what they are talkin about.

you need to buy a wave cap and maybe put some grease on you head before puttin it on. also, cut your hair into a fade and keep yourself lined up.

Always brush your hair! Carry a brush wherever you go!

Most black men that have waves use a wave cap (if you don't have any place you know of that sells them, you can use pantyhose or another tight-fitting fabric on your hair) which will lay the curls down with enough pressure to leave only waves. If your hair is super-curly, use this method. If your hair is straight, this won't work for you.

If you wash your hair and put in a heavy gel or cream/creme styling product, dry your hair pulling it straight with a comb or brush, then put the wave cap on overnight and as long as you can stand wearing it. You might be able to put the wave cap on while your hair is still wet, but depending on how curly your hair is, drying it in a wave cap may just mat your curls down into a kinkier curl.

I would also suggest getting your hair cut shorter, making sure that the hair is cut just before the first complete curl forms, so you won't have complete curls when your hair is dry, but waves. You'll have to go to a stylist who knows how to work with curly hair to do this. Your hair has a natural curl pattern and cutting it before the curl is complete will leave you with a wave rather than the curls you have. If you don't want your hair that short (the first natural curl in your hair is around the first inch or two out of the scalp) you'll just have to keep a heavy styling product on it--to weigh down the natural curls--and pull it straight when you dry it to remove some of the natural curl in your hair. If that's too much work to do on it, I'd get it cut short and use the wave cap. Good Luck!

P.S.-Ask girls you know (friends/family) who does their hair and if they have any guy clients, or if they have a good reputation. Go to a recommended stylist that has a male clientele, or if you're just going to a shop you know, pick a stylist with curly or thicker hair-they'll better know what to do with that type of hair having it themself!

Also, if you have to go get a nice expensive haircut the first time, it's worth it! Instead of going to the same expensive stylist the next haircut you need, go to a cheaper shop (within the next 2-4 weeks of your expensive cut) and have someone--again with thick or curly hair-- cut your hair and they should be able to follow the same cut you received the last time, giving you the same cut at a cheaper price. Make sure you tell them-- I want the same exact cut, just a bit shorter (depending on how long you wait to get it cut next, it'll be about 1/2 inch growth per month).
